The Committee for Town-Planning and Architecture of the St. Petersburg City Government held a seminar on 13-14 June entitled “Reorganization of urban industrial territories: world experience and perspectives in St. Petersburg.” The event was arranged by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat). Oleg Rybin, KGA Chairman and Chief Architect of St. Petersburg, noted that the process of withdrawing industrial enterprises from St. Petersburg’s “gray band” is proceeding too slowly. The city needs to develop an overall program for removing enterprises from the historical center and preserving historical industrial buildings with the option of changing their functional purpose. Elaborating a unified city strategy with an individual approach to each industrial territory was named one of the Committee’s priority tasks.
